Sinkhole Damage Home
Florida sinkholes
are a natural component of
Florida's landscape. We have more sinkholes in Florida than
any other place in this country. Despite what many people think,
there usually is no void under the house. A
sinkhole damaged home
can be caused by the unstable ground. The ground is unstable due to
fine sand, clay, or organic material (Mud). This soil will expand
and contract as the water level in the ground goes up and down. It
causes the damaged house foundation to be unstable. The big expense
in repairing a sinkhole
damaged home is to make sure you have no more problems in the
future. It usually requires injection grouting and / or Pier
instillation.
In many homes I see there is very little visible
damage to the property. Yet the repair and stabilization can run
over $150,000.00. The insurance companies (sometimes with the help
of a good lawyer) will pay off the insurance policy to the limits of
the policy. It is cheaper to do that then repair the house and risk
more expense after the repairs are done. Many times the house will
continue to shift and crack after the repair. It is due to the
pressure underground from too much concrete pumped under the ground.
Having a damaged unrepaired sinkhole home can be very
difficult. I specialize in sinkhole damaged homes. Please call me
and I can make you an offer to buy it. 813 232-2400.
So, if you are the owner of the
property being damaged, you should immediately contact your
insurance provider and report the damage as a claim. By
Florida
state law, all insurance companies are required to provide sinkhole
coverage. When a claim is made, they are also required by law to
investigate the claim for sinkhole activity that may have caused the
damage.
If
you think you may have sinkhole damage to your home and you have
contacted the insurance company will have an inspection
of your property to see the damage. The Insurance Company will also
hire a geologist. If the geologist confirms that a sinkhole exists, an
engineer is then retained to determine the extent of the damage
and set forth a plan to remediate, and
sinkhole repair
of the damage. These
damages include not only repairing the damages to your home or
building, but also the stabilization of the ground beneath the
foundation. Repairs must be done to the satisfaction of an engineer
who will certify the ground as stabilized.
If you believe that you have a sinkhole damaged home then you may have
noticed some of these indicators in or around your home:
Interior:
Cracking of walls, floors and/or ceilings
Cracking of the exterior walls of the structure (sometimes referred
to as "stair step-cracking")
Separation of walls from floors and/or ceilings
Windows and/or doors jamming or sticking
Plumbing Problems
Exterior:
Cracking in driveways and/or pool decks or
foundations
Physical depressions or holes in your yard,
Physical depressions in a neighbor’s yard, or even in the street
Slanting of trees
Crooked or slanted fence posts
